Maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene wax is a functional polymer obtained by chemical modification, which introduces polar maleic anhydride groups into non-polar polyethylene wax molecular chain. This unique structural design makes it an excellent multi-functional additive with outstanding compatibility and bridging effects as its core values.
The core value of maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene wax lies in its unique dual-parent structure, which is “one is close to non-polar substances, and the other end is close to polar substances”.
♠Coupling and compatibility: It can act as an efficient molecular bridge, where the-polar polyethylene chain segment in its molecule has good compatibility with non-polar polymer matrices such as polypropylene and polyethylene, while the polar maleic anhyd group can form chemical bonds or strong physical adsorption with active groups on the surface of inorganic fillers (such as calcium carbonate, talc) or polar materials (such wood fiber, glass fiber) (such as hydroxyl groups). This greatly improves the bonding force between the originally incompatible two-phase interfaces.
♠Dispersion effect: can form an organic coating layer on the surface of pigment or filler particles, which prevents the re-agglomeration of particles through the effect of spatial hindrance and their uniform dispersion in the matrix, thus avoiding the decrease in performance and surface defects caused by agglomeration.
♠Easy emulsification: Due to the introduction of polar groups maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene wax is easier to emulsify in water than ordinary polyethylene wax, and the emulsion formed has higher stability, which its application range expand to fields that require water-based systems, such as paper making, fabric finishing, etc.
Main application fields:
♠Plastic and composite modification:
Inorganic filler modification: When filling plastics such as PP and PE with calcium carbonate talcum powder, etc., it acts as a coupling agent, significantly improving the mechanical properties (tensile strength, impact strength) and processing fluidity of the composite.
Wood-plastic composite materials: Its maleic anhydride group can react with the hydroxyl groups on the surface of wood powder to esterify, greatly the interfacial compatibility between wood fibers and plastic matrices, and enhancing the strength, water resistance, and dimensional stability of the material.
Glass fiber reinforcement system: As coupling agent, it enhances the interfacial bonding strength between glass fibers and resin matrices, effectively transferring stress and improving the mechanical strength of composites.
♠Color masterbatch andment dispersion
As an efficient dispersant, it is especially suitable for inorganic pigments (such as titanium dioxide) and structure-sensitive pearlescent pigments. can effectively prevent pigment agglomeration, improve tinting strength, color uniformity, and resist pigment precipitation. Studies have shown that its dispersion effect is usually better than polyethylene wax. In high-end applications, such as laser marking color masterbatch, it can also act as a carrier resin to improve pigment dispersion and marking effect.
♠Powder coating
In powder coatings, it can be used as a texture control agent to produce a matte effect, while also improving the dispersion of pigments the fluidity and adhesion of the coating film. Studies have shown that maleic anhydride-grafted polyethylene wax powder prepared by optimizing the process can make adhesion of the coating film reach the highest grade (0 grade).
♠Other applications
It can also be used as a flow index improver and tackifier hot melt adhesives, an abrasion resistant and dispersant for rubber, and for paper making, fabric finishing and other fields
